DSLR Intro for the Sussex University Photography Society
Yesterday I visited Sussex University to give a talk to a wonderfully receptive audience of amateur photographers who are members of the Photography Society. They had requested an introduction to Digital SLR photography, which is one of the seminars I hold every month at Southdown Studio. It was all very well received by the students who attended, and I’ll look forward to a return visit at some point.

I’ve been involved with many charities over the years but when Debbie Brown of Brighton’s I Leave My Mark came to tell me about her project, her mission had a special resonance for me. Aiming to help bereaved & traumatised children, ILMM is especially poignant for anyone with children, and anyone in the middle of their life pondering their legacy and wondering how they can help make a real difference. And I’m willing to bet it’s the first charity based at a beach hut in Brighton & Hove!
I’ve done the initial photography with Debbie at Beach Hut 44 down on Hove seafront, and shall be there on promenade on Boxing day with my children (and camera) for the first I Leave My Mark event.

SWPP/BPPA Competition Award Winners
I don’t enter many competitions, and this was the first time I entered the SWPP/BPPA monthly competition for June 2009. It’s the sort of thing where you don’t want to look at the other entries because it’s all of a terribly high standard and everything is so intimidating. Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I tentatively entered two landscapes I’d taken one October morning when the sunrise light was lovely, walking around Shoreham Harbour. To my great surprise and delight, I won two awards – one gold, the other silver.
You can purchase either of these images as limited edition framed prints directly from me; please contact me for details.

Brighton Pride 2007 Photo Gallery
Brighton Pride 2007 was a fabulous event for both the gay and straight people of Brighton. For once the sun was shining, and apart from some strange people protesting about something or other, it was all as friendly and exuberant as usual. Southdown Studio had two photographers there covering the event – see the photos here.
There are previous years’ photos still up on display too – check out the Brighton Pride 2005 gallery and even the Brighton Pride 2003 gallery.
