High Quality, Low-Cost Wedding Photography
In recognition of the economic climate, I have taken the decision this year to offer a substantial 30% discount on all my all-day wedding photography packages booked this year. In addition I have not raised the prices of any wedding photography service or product even in the light of the recent government VAT increase, and continue to offer 2009/2010 prices. Of course you still get the same high-quality wedding photography services throughout Brighton, Sussex & Surrey, as friendly, relaxed and informal as ever.
So when it’s a choice between a bloke with a camera and an experienced, professional wedding photographer with an excellent track record, at least you won’t have to select based on cost alone. Give me a call on Brighton 01273 358834 to discuss your wedding photography.

Wedding Portraiture
Why not meet your wedding photographer before your wedding day and have a fun photo shoot, either in the studio or on location? Or get together with your wedding photographer after the wedding day for some relaxed portrait shots away from the non-stop demands of the day itself.

A Sussex Wedding Photographer in Richmond Park
As a Sussex-based wedding photographer, most of the weddings at which I’m the official photographer are, unsurprisingly, around Brighton, Lewes, Crawley, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath. However sometimes a referral from couple who have already had me as their wedding photographer can lead to a job outside my usual areas – the furthest of which was Sydney, Australia – but that’s another story for another time. On 9th July 2010, Zoe & Sam engaged me as their wedding photographer at a beautiful wedding in the elegant surroundings of Pembroke Lodge, which lies inside Richmond Park – that’s the Royal park with the Queen’s deer roaming around.
As a surprisingly confident and nerve-free Sam warmly greeted the guests on the sunshine on the terrace, the nervous bride, Zoe, arrived looking gorgeous, leaving her brother wondering out loud what had happened to the sister he’d grown up with. A wedding photographer always hopes for sunny weather, though it brings with it its own challenges, such as meltingly hot bride & groom, people squinting into the sun, and red shiny faces. This was no exception – the day was incredibly hot, the marriage room inside Pembroke Lodge was sweltering, and the video man and I were sporting very lovely semi-transparent white shirts by the end of the ceremony.
Still, the wedding photographer wasn’t disappointed with the splendid blue skies & backlighting which resulted in some lovely wedding photos from a not-so-Sussex wedding.
I used this company because they were recommended by 2 other couples who liked casual photos. Jon arrived at the venue early and stayed after his time had run out, the gallery photos are excellent and he didn’t prove any bother and we weren’t tripping over him all the time. The pictures are natural with some posed, as we had asked. Jon obviously takes pride in his work as he emailed me once the gallery went up. I have recommended him to 2 other couples who are planning a wedding. Thank you Jon x – Zoe & Sam

Natural vs Posed Wedding Photography

I see a lot of very good wedding photographers’ work where the couple and even their guests have been posed by the photographer. Some of it is incredibly heavily photoshopped stuff that wins awards in various competitions (like the SWPP ones) which my photos could never win because it looks like a photo, not a painting. I also see a lot of very poor stuff, but the less said about that the better. Generally in the good stuff, the couple look immaculate, and the photo itself looks like a photoshopped, airbrushed, high dynamic-range masterpiece suitable for any wedding magazine. There’s always something missing though.
What’s missing is the emotion. What’s missing is the sheer, radiant joy of a couple in love who have just dedicated themselves to each other in front of their nearest & dearest, in a fantastic, beautiful, extravagant day they threw their hearts & souls into planning.
What’s needed to capture that is a wedding photographer who understands that emotion is what it’s all about, and feels that emotion in total empathy with his happy (joyful) couple. Someone who simply loves the fun, the tears, the laughter, the intimacy, the specialness. A photographer who appreciates having the amazing opportunity to document a unique piece of social history, and the single greatest day in the life of two unique human beings who found in each other something nobody else could provide. A wedding photographer who doesn’t get in the way, or try to control things. Someone who’s confident enough in his abilities to take great photos, capturing all the wonderful, brilliant, touching moments of a wedding day withough interrupting or feeling the need to upstage the bride & groom or stage manage the action.
I get regular emails from companies (generally run by wedding photographers with lots of business acumen but not that much actual photographic ability) trying to sell me wedding photography courses conducted with models in a studio. They also sell “posing guides” for wedding photographers. A posing guide for a live event?! No thanks! The day I need a posing guide for wedding photography is the day I’ll give up being a wedding photographer and go and do something totally noncreative and formulaic instead.

Emma & Russell – Wedding photography at Stanmer House, Brighton
Emma & Russell had a lovely wedding at Brighton’s Stanmer House, which always provides an elegant and charming environment in which to tie the knot, lying in the Sussex downs inside the Southdowns National Park. They booked me as their wedding photographer with my two-hour mini package. During just two hours of photography I managed to capture just over 515 super wedding photos of Emma’s arrival, Russell nervously waiting, the ceremony, drinks reception, guests’ departure, a little walk around the park & church with Russell & Emma, and their departure to their reception. All in all, an excellent example of what can be done by a professional wedding photographer within the realms of even a budget wedding photography package. I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.
